We're very psyched to offer the debut album of LA's Harry the Nightgown on cassette! The band operates as a sort of playground for the duo of Spencer Hartling and Sami Perez's impressive production chops (they're both engineers at Tiny Telephone Studios). It's also the first new project from Perez, who cut her teeth playing in The She's before joining Cherry Glazerr on bass.

On the album's driving lead single, "Ping Pong", the band expand a Parquet Courts-esque groove into a harmony laden, art-rock excursion. It's only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the full album, though, which covers a ton of sonic ground. On the single, the band write:

We were nervous picking a first single, because it’s our introduction to the world as Harry the Nightgown. We’re so excited to share Ping Pong because it is a pretty raw exhibition of what we are. This song sat for a while as just a repetitive guitar part over a drum machine. It took us some time, but the song eventually grew into a representation of our ability to collaborate, which, as ex-partners committing to a merged creative outlet, is a painful yet fruitful process.

Harry the Nightgown’s influences range from The Raincoats and XTC to Rosalía and Kate Bush. Their sound has been compared to bands such as Dirty Projectors and Deerhoof. The product is defined by improv “Toast and Punch” recording techniques.

Harry the Nightgown is the pursuit of Hartling and Perez’s artistic partnership as they begin a new chapter in Los Angeles, where they have established their new recording studio, Grandma’s Couch.
