Rooftops A Forest of Polarity
Info:
Known for its mastery of clean-tone guitar arrangements and knotted rhythms, Rooftops’ sole album A Forest of Polarity is a defining record of aughts math-rock. Largely an instrumental album, its unpredictable downbeats and unison punches might catch you off guard, but they always land with grace and a peculiar logic, calling to mind spiritually related bands of the era like Pretend, Piglet, or Clever Girl. On A Forest of Polarity, Rooftops lean into their ineffable songwriting style by rotating their palette. Album standout “Raft Easily” features chanted vocals with unusual syntax, where the denouement “Leafy Stair” adds strings and brass to extract even more emotional uplift from the instrumental. Rooftops’ interlocking guitars converse in nimble call-and-response, combining for intricate melodies emphasized by dexterous drumming, making for an immaculate one-and-done performance.Pressing Info:
