Peel Dream Magazine announce new mini album Taurus with "Venus In Nadir"

One year from the release of acclaimed album Rose Main Reading Room, Peel Dream Magazine returns with new mini album Taurus.

Peel Dream Magazinep: Vice Cooler

Spanning eight previously unavailable tracks that were originally recorded for their lush and inviting 2024 full length, Taurus offers a wider glimpse into songwriter Joseph Stevens' process and creative output from those sessions.

The band, whose name nods to the BBC Radio 1 legend John Peel -- arbiter of all things underground, quality, and (it must be said) "cool" -- has since its inception been a genre-hopping experiment, jumping from motorik krautrock to shoegaze and space age pop.

"Peel Dream Magazine have taken cues from bands like Stereolab and Pram, exploring the ways that rigid, droning repetition can make time feel rubbery." -Pitchfork

On Taurus, Peel Dream Magazine remain explorative, drifting effortlessly across a gamut of styles that range from the twee indie pop of lead single "Venus In Nadir", the title track's cozy vibraphones, and the bubbly space-synths of "Seek and Destroy."

Expanding on what Pitchfork described as "gorgeous and glowing" is album highlight "Believer", a studio favorite of the band's that fits perfectly into the Rose Main Reading Room sonic milleu, whose woodwinds and mallets evoke that natural woodland atmosphere so crucial to Peel Dream Magazine's signature sound.

Of the mini album, Peel Dream Magazine's Joe Stevens writes:

"Taurus is a new mini album featuring eight previously unreleased tracks from the Rose Main Reading Room sessions. Some of these songs were cut for time, but the majority were actually just unfinished when we had turn that album in, and after some additional tinkering I eventually decided they should see the light of day. One of my favorites here is the title track Taurus, which actually was one of the first seeds for the "sound" of those sessions. Another one of my favorites is Believer, which is about my wife, and opening yourself up to someone who you care about. Hopefully folks appreciate this record as its own thing -- as a short standalone album -- but also a companion piece to Rose Main Reading Room."
