Introducing: Sweet Pill
Hello topshelfrecords dot com slash words readers! I’m ridiculously excited to be bringing you this news today. Allow me to introduce you to the newest addition to the Topshelf roster, and a band that we’ve been obsessed with behind the scenes over here: Sweet Pill. We’re releasing their debut LP Where the Heart Is, and you can hear the first single "Blood" off of it now!
Recommended if you like: Paramore, Circa Survive, Pool Kids, aggressive and technical emo-pop
Philadelphia’s Sweet Pill write eruptive emo songs that embrace the edges of pop and hardcore. Members Zayna Youssef (vocals), Jayce Williams (guitar), Chris Kearney (drums and vocals), Sean McCall (guitar and vocals), and Ryan Cullen (bass and vocals) originally started the band at Rowan University in 2018, but later found themselves calling Philly their home.
“We all came to Philly because the music scene is constantly growing. It is so easy to go catch a show or even throw one. So many artists we look up to started here.”
The kind of band whose members are fully immersed in their local scene — through a handful of notable side projects and the show-promoting Philly staple 4333 Collective — the quintet’s sound takes wide-spectrum influence from its environment. The result is a mix of complex song structures and flourishes of technical acumen ~ wholly unconcerned with genre.
Their debut full length album Where the Heart Is comes out May 25!
You can hear the lead single “Blood” streaming everywhere now! It absolutely rips, and it’s accompanied by an equally as punchy music video.
"In the video for ‘Blood’ I am put against a younger and naïve version of myself only to fall short of victory. The song reflects conflict and how keeping it simple might help you prevail."
-Zayna Youssef (vocals)
Where the Heart Is is available to pre-order on CD, cassette, and vinyl. Look how fucking good they look.
CDs and cassette will ship out on album release day, and we’re expecting vinyl to ship out in August!
