Introducing: Record Setter
At Topshelf we're always looking for an opportunity to partner with our favorite musicians, which explains how we've managed to rack up releases with 140+ bands since our inception in 2006. As we've grown so has our taste, and we've expanded into countless genre and sub-genre territories through the years, but always still releasing the best of the best (in my humble opinion). That said, there's always room in our hearts for impeccable screamo, and when we realized that each of us behind the scenes were independently spinning Record Setter in our free time and loving every moment of it, well obviously we had to reach out. Originally the band was slated to play our ill-fated SXSW showcase in March of this year, but our paths were not able to cross.
Half a year later, we are thrilled to announce that we've added Record Setter to our roster, and will be releasing their new album I Owe You Nothing digitally on November 6. Not a bad back-up plan, right?
Hailing from Denton, TX, the innovative post-hardcore/screamo/emo group originated in 2011 as a brother-sister duo of guitarist and vocalist Judy Mitchell and drummer Jake Mitchell, now rounded out with members Kyle Pennington (gutiar/vocals) and Jacob Morrison (bass). Unflinchingly inventive with every new release, Record Setter's new album I Owe You Nothing is out November 6 with physicals forthcoming. Use this link to be notified when pre-orders go live!
While you're waiting you can listen to their singles and read the write-up in Stereogum where Record Setter was named as a "band to watch" by Ian Cohen.
For fans new and old, you'll be excited to hear that we are also pressing Record Setter's fantastic 2017 album Purge to vinyl as well, use this link to sign up for updates on those physical pre-orders :)
