Remember how we shared a new single from our friends Gulfer a couple of weeks back?

Well, we're happy to announce that they are back at it again with another explosive single called "Heat Wave". As guitarist/vocalist Joe Therriault explains, the track is "about about how people present an idealized version of themselves in many situations. This is something I’ve been noticing more and more as I get older and lose touch with old friends. In a way, the flip side of that coin is to draw attention to how important real friendships are." While drawing influence from shoegaze and grunge, the song's lyrical substance sits with how conversations and interpersonal interactions can sometimes be so performative. The band's interweaving guitarists playfully mesh with a crashing, nimble rhythm section across a stylistically varied composition.

If you missed our announcement back in August, the Montreal quartet Gulfer is back with their third full-length record, a self-titled album to be co-released by us and Royal Mountain Records in Canada. The album will be available in three special color variants, bright yellow cassette, and CD to be released October 16, 2020. Spanning topics of self-doubt and resentment to climate change and the waning of youth, Gulfer is an intricately crafted album full of fun, punk-inspired emo tunes. It's a statement of confidence and ambition, full of fresh and exciting sounds that represent where Gulfer is now.
