Channeling the best of big, fuzzed out guitars of the 90s, Bay Area band Happy Diving have a knack for walloping, gut-punch riffs and sun-blasted sludgy rock. On their second and final full-length, Electric Soul Unity, the band strike a balance between crunchy indie rock and revivalist melodicism. Lead writer Matt Berry’s raw, hazy vocals lend a heart-on-sleeve sentimentality to the resounding walls of fuzz, calling on influences Dinosaur Jr. and Teenage Fanclub.
